IMMERSED IN MUSIC THROUGH SPATIAL AUDIO – Berlin Music Tech Meetup #17

A late start into the fifth year of the Berlin Music Tech Meetups but a fantastic one. 🙂 Time to (re)connect !
This meetup will highlight the potential of spatial audio for the creation of new and truly immersive music experiences and what artists, producers, and engineers can get out of it. We will look at the benefits and challenges of creating these kinds of immersive musical experiences, and what it means for live performances and the quality of sound. We will learn about the opportunities for songwriters to think about music in a new way to create new narratives through the spatialization of sound.
Meet and connect with like-minded individuals from diverse backgrounds, network, share ideas, and enjoy having fun and free drinks.
We are super happy about our collaboration with Berlin Partner for this event and grateful that the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises provided us with some funding for this event.
See you at Forum Factory on Tuesday, May 28 from 6.30 pm on.
Entry is free!
Andrew worked in June of 2023 with Discovery Zone (JJ Weihl) to create a live performance of 50 minutes of new material in Ambisonics at the Zeiss-Großplanetarium Berlin. Upon completion, JJ’s label found the work so compelling that they would like to release it for streaming on Apple Music using Dolby Atmos. Andrew discovered a completely free pipeline to take a work composed in Ambisonics and convert it to Dolby Atmos for release. In the spirit of Open Source, Andrew has created a Reaper Template and documentation for this process that will be unveiled at the MusicTech Meetup.
What exactly is immersive spatial audio? Is it merely an expansion of a medium we are already familiar with, or are we encountering a new medium, a new space for creative output? Kling Klang Klong uses technology and science to craft immersive sonic experiences for museums, concert halls, and other, more unorthodox venues. Through their work, they transform complex data and concepts into poetic, emotionally resonant soundscapes. Felipe will guide us through some of his studio's immersive work and will offer us a glimpse into a potential future for audio.
